I make sure to pay extra attention to the ends and any areas that feel particularly fragile or heat-damaged. This simple step helps to soften the hair, making it less prone to breakage during the wash process and infusing it with much-needed moisture before cleansing. Beyond the pre-wash mask, I've learned a few other crucial tips on how to repair damaged 4C hair. Firstly, reducing heat is paramount. If you must use heat, always, always use a good heat protectant spray. I also invested in a blow dryer with multiple heat settings and make sure to use the lowest effective heat setting, focusing on tension rather than extreme heat to stretch my hair. When blow drying, I section my hair into smaller parts – this ensures even drying and reduces the need to go over the same sections repeatedly. Another vital aspect of restoring damaged 4C hair is deep conditioning regularly. After shampooing, a powerful deep conditioner helps to penetrate the hair shaft, repairing and strengthening it from within.
