Hey art lovers and fellow Demon Slayer fans! I'm so excited to share a closer look at my latest sketchbook entry, featuring none other than the Upper Rank Six siblings, Daki and Gyutaro. These two have such a fascinating dynamic, and their designs are just incredible, which really inspired me to bring them to life on paper. When I decided to draw Daki, I knew I wanted to capture both her alluring charm and her terrifying rage. It was a fun challenge to illustrate Daki smiling, showcasing her confident and playful side, right alongside Daki angry, where you can really feel her demonic power. Gyutaro, with his unique silhouette and intense aura, was also a blast to sketch, adding that crucial brotherly presence to the piece. I really tried to convey their personalities through their expressions and poses. For this piece, my trusty Ohuhu colored pencils were my weapon of choice. I absolutely adore how vibrant and blendable they are, especially for anime art. Laying down those initial base colors and then slowly building up the shading and highlights is such a meditative process. If you're into traditional art, I highly recommend giving Ohuhu colored pencils a try; they offer fantastic pigment for their price point and are great for achieving those smooth, gradient effects you often see in anime. I find that layering light to dark helps a lot in getting rich colors without overworking the paper. My process usually starts with a rough sketch in my sketchbook, focusing on getting the anatomy and general flow right. Then, I refine the lines before moving on to color. For Daki's intricate obi and her hair, I paid extra attention to make sure the details popped. And Gyutaro's dark, sharp features needed careful handling to maintain his menacing look. It's all about balancing the delicate aspects of Daki with the raw power of Gyutaro. One tip I'd love to share for anyone drawing anime characters: don't be afraid to exaggerate expressions slightly. It really helps to convey emotion, especially with characters like Daki who have such strong personalities. And when using colored pencils, remember to use a light hand for initial layers and gradually build up pressure and color. This makes blending much smoother and prevents your paper from getting oversaturated too quickly.
