The Social Media Formula
This formula will help you understand how much social media is appropriate for you. Sometimes, social media is a great resource and well.. other times it’s a waste.
Let’s calculate:
1. Determine the amount of time you spent creating.
2. Determine the amount of time you spent on social media.
3. Divide the total hours spent creating by the total hours spent on social media.
4. If the number is over 1, this is great! It means you spend more time creating than on social media. If the number is less than one, you’re spending more time consuming more than exploring your our art. This is unhealthy.
Example:
You spend 3 hrs sewing a bag and 2 hrs scrolling on Lemon8.
3 ÷ 2 = 1.5
This is healthy! 🙂↕️🫰
The more time we spend consuming, the less positivity we have. How can you be content with your own life, if you’re not even exploring it for yourself? Creating allows you to focus on what matters, grow as a person, and amaze yourself on a regular basis. If you draw everyday for one year, you’ll be better at it in 6 months than you were when you started. What a great feeling to see yourself improve in such a short time! We thrive when we create.
As a wellness creator, it’s important that I create more than I consume. That way I can continue to share my art and maintain my mental health. Otherwise, this won’t be fun anymore.
Keeping this ratio in mind will help you set boundaries with social media.
Remember, art can be anything, even if it starts as a copy. 🌸
All the best,
Jau 💚

In today's fast-paced digital landscape, balancing social media consumption and creative output is vital for mental wellness. Many individuals find themselves scrolling endlessly, which can detract from pursuits that bring joy and fulfillment. This simple formula can help you assess your engagement with social media versus creativity: calculate your total hours spent creating and divide it by hours spent on social media. For instance, if you sew for 3 hours and scroll for 2, your ratio is 1.5, indicating a healthy balance. Aim for a ratio greater than 1 to ensure creativity dominates your time. By consciously evaluating this balance, you align your social media use with purposeful creation, fostering personal growth. Remember, creativity can stem from anything—even reproducing existing art forms! Emphasize setting boundaries to enhance your experience, ensuring that social media remains a tool for inspiration rather than mere consumption. Create more, consume less, and cherish your artistic journey!
