I’d been wanting to get back into Valorant recently so I decided to pick it up tonight just for fun
I’ve been playing since 2021 so I’ve seen the game grow and change a lot lol. As much as I love it I can say it has definitely gotten more toxic over the years— I hope that now that its kind of aging out of popularity it might calm down again, but it’s definitely worse than when I started.
Admittedly part of the reason I like the Optimus Prime tag so much is that I can lean into the bit and have a weird voice changer without anyone questioning it lol. Makes life a little easier when my teammates don’t know I’m a woman
Either way, I do really love this game. I’ve had some great times on it with my friends and met some great people; and I love the way it challenges me and how satisfying it feels when I do well

It's not just about the gunplay; understanding the various screens and metrics is key to enjoying the experience, especially when you're trying to get back into the swing of things. I noticed many of us search for what these screens actually mean, so let me share my perspective and what I've learned.
First off, the Valorant lobby screen is where all the magic begins. Whether you're diving into an Unrated match, a quick Swiftplay match, or even a high-stakes competitive game, this is your hub. When I first logged back in, I spent some time just exploring the redesigned layout! It’s also where you'll find the party lobby, which is essential for teaming up with friends. There's nothing quite like queueing up with your squad, knowing you've got backup. My recent game with my friend reminded me how much fun a good party lobby makes the entire experience.
Then comes the agent selection screen. Oh my goodness, I literally had no idea they changed the lock-in screen! It’s crucial to pick an agent that suits your playstyle and the map. For me, maining KAY/O makes the decision easy – I just choose him to play comfortably. Knowing your agent and their abilities is half the battle won, and seeing the team composition come together on this screen is always exciting. In Swiftplay, the agent select is often quicker, adding to the fast-paced nature of the mode.
Once you’re in game, the play screen is where your skills are tested. But what about after the round, or even the whole match? That's where the Valorant scoreboard comes into play. It's not just about kills, deaths, and assists (KDA), but also utility usage, economy, and most importantly, your combat score. I remember my first game back, looking at the scoreboard and seeing my KDA of 3/8. It wasn't stellar, but then I looked at my average combat score meaning.
The combat score in Valorant is a fantastic metric for understanding your impact beyond just eliminations. It factors in damage dealt, multi-kills, first bloods, and even utility assists. So, even if you’re not getting the most kills, a high combat score means you’re still contributing significantly to your team. After that "DEFEAT" match, seeing my AVG COMBAT SCORE of 223 was a silver lining. It showed me that despite the loss and my slow start, I was still putting in work and making a difference. It’s a great way to evaluate your performance and identify areas for improvement.
And let's not forget the thrill of an intense clutch moment gameplay! Those moments where you're the last one standing, outnumbered, and manage to win the round? Pure adrenaline! The satisfaction when you do well, especially after a long break, is just unmatched. Even when my team lost, the feeling of making those good plays, even small ones, keeps me coming back.
Whether you're exploring the full match scoreboard, trying to understand your average combat score, or just having fun in an Unrated match, Valorant offers so much. It's a journey, and every screen tells a part of the story. If you're also thinking of getting back into Valorant, don't hesitate! The game has evolved, but the core fun and challenge are still there, waiting for you to jump back into the lobby with your friends.
