Memories are a funny thing

Was not expecting this book to make me cry and pull at my heartstrings

4.75⭐️

This book has similar narratives as The Body by Stephen King , and movies like Sandlot. Where the narrator is going back and forth between present day and the summer of the 80’s. The pacing did get a bit sluggish in the middle. But that ending😭😭😭😭 If you’re looking for campy, 80’s nostalgia, and an eccentric uncle ( like Gravity Falls) I highly recommend it.

As someone who grew up in the 80s, I found the book’s setting and atmosphere incredibly relatable and authentic. The echoes of childhood summers, combined with the supernatural elements and the quirky uncle figure, remind me a lot of the charm found in shows like Gravity Falls and movies like The Sandlot. What stood out most was how the author uses the past and present storytelling technique to deepen the emotional weight of the narrative. The pacing does slow down mid-story, but for me, that pause allows readers to fully absorb the complex layers of friendship, loss, and growing up. The ending is especially impactful—pulling at your heartstrings and leaving a lingering sense of bittersweet reflection. In book communities and reviews, this novel is often recommended for fans of coming-of-age stories that combine supernatural intrigue with warm, nostalgic tones. If you appreciate books that stir strong feelings and transport you back in time, this one will resonate deeply. The 4.75-star rating is well deserved given the emotional connection and the vivid depiction of youthful summers in the 80s. Overall, I found 'The Saturday Night Ghost Club' not just a story about ghosts, but a meditation on how memories shape us, fitting perfectly into the category of 'memories are a funny thing.' For anyone looking for a heartfelt, nostalgic read that balances humor, melancholy, and supernatural mystery, this book is a great pick.
