I arrived right as a powerful storm was sweeping through, turning the usually serene Adriatic Sea into a spectacle of crashing waves and dark, heavy clouds. From my vantage point, watching those waves break on the rocky beach with the distant town of Vlorë nestled along the coast was truly mesmerizing. It definitely added a raw, wild beauty to the beginning of my trip, making for some truly epic photos! Despite the blustery weather, Vlorë had so much to offer. Evenings were spent finding warmth and comfort, like discovering incredible local spots for dinner. One night, I had a delicious plate of fusilli pasta mixed with savory meat – pure comfort food after a day of sea breezes. The local markets were also a highlight. Wandering through the bustling stalls, I loved picking up essentials for my hostel stay. I snagged some Ferra milk, Ottimini crackers, and even some Divella pasta to cook up myself, plus a variety of tasty snacks like granola. And yes, I absolutely stocked up on those uniquely addictive Lays Oregano flavoured potato chips – a perfect treat for watching the stormy skies from indoors! It's these little discoveries that make a trip feel truly authentic. Beyond the thrilling storms and delicious food, it was the small, heartfelt interactions that really made the trip special. I was lucky enough to spend time with some adorable local pups. There was sweet Bella, a fluffy black and tan dog, who melted my heart, often seen resting near a blue mobility aid, and then later, the lovely Chloe II, a black and white dog I got to cuddle with. These furry friends added so much joy and a homely feel to my travels, reminding me of the simple pleasures in life. And as quickly as it arrived, the storm eventually passed, revealing the most incredible sky after the rain – a mix of soft blues and lingering clouds, framed by towering slender trees and residential buildings. It was a beautiful reminder of nature's resilience and the promise of clear days ahead. Even simple mornings felt special, with a quiet breakfast setup of coffee, fresh bread, and a peeled lemon, accompanied by some magazines for a slow start. Vlorë truly embraces you, offering a genuine slice of life on the Albanian coastline, where you can witness the raw power of the Adriatic Sea and also find warmth in its daily rhythms and friendly faces. If you're looking for an adventure that combines natural drama with heartwarming local experiences, the Albanian Adriatic coast is definitely worth exploring, even when the weather isn't picture-perfect!
