Pit Viper Adventure 🐍
Decided to pay a visit to Thomson Nature Park! A rather peaceful hiking spot with not much noise around. I went on a weekday morning at 10am and there's actually not many people there.
Pretty wild to have found some Wagler Pit Vipers along the way!! One of them was huge, and probably ate a good sized rodent which could be seen from it's belly bump. Was hoping to see other species of snakes too but didn't, so I'll be back!! Drop me a dm if you'd like to hike tgt!
Ended off with lunch at Sembawang Hills Food Centre (not sure why it's called that, as it's not really at sembawang?) and have to shoutout this drinks stall 01-30 serving $2.20 sugarcane for a big cup in this economy?! Tried their other mixed fruit juice and it's worth a try too!
During my hike at Thomson Nature Park, I was fascinated by the sight of the Wagler Pit Viper resting quietly on the forest floor. These snakes are native to the region and are known for their vibrant colors and distinctive heat-sensing pit organs. Seeing one this close was a real highlight and reinforced my respect for the park's rich biodiversity. Walking through the peaceful trails early in the morning, I noticed how the forest floor was scattered with leaves and small branches, creating a perfect camouflage for these snakes. It’s important to stay alert and observe from a safe distance when encountering wildlife like the Wagler Pit Viper to avoid disturbing them or putting yourself at risk. After the hike, I stopped by the famous Sembawang Hills Food Centre just a short distance away. Despite the name, it’s located near the park and offers some fantastic local refreshments. Their $2.20 sugarcane juice was incredibly refreshing and a great way to cool down after the walk. I also tried the mixed fruit juice which was equally delightful. For fellow nature enthusiasts, I recommend visiting Thomson Nature Park on weekday mornings to enjoy the calm atmosphere and better chances of spotting wildlife.
