What did I do to my Billie?
What is really going on yall?!
As a devoted plant parent, I've had my fair share of puzzling moments with my Monstera, affectionately named Billie. One day, I noticed Billie's leaves were drooping, and some started turning yellow—a clear sign something was off. It was baffling because I’d been following a consistent routine of watering and care. After some research and trial and error, I realized that overwatering was the silent culprit. Monsteras need their soil to dry out slightly between watering sessions; too much moisture can cause root rot, leading to unhealthy leaves. I adjusted Billie's watering schedule, allowing the top inch of soil to dry before watering again, which helped tremendously. Lighting is another key factor. Although Monsteras thrive in bright, indirect light, too much direct sunlight can scorch their leaves, while too little light slows their growth and causes yellowing. I moved Billie closer to a window with filtered light, which revived the plant’s vibrant fabric. Humidity also plays a crucial role, especially if you live in a dry environment. I started misting Billie's leaves regularly and placed a humidifier nearby to simulate the tropical conditions Monsteras love. This increased humidity made a noticeable difference in the tree’s overall health. Lastly, I learned the importance of proper fertilization. Feeding Billie with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every month during growing seasons encouraged lush, green growth. Navigating the love and care for Billie wasn’t always smooth, but with patience and the right adjustments, my Monstera bounced back beautifully. For anyone experiencing similar issues with their Monsteras, remember that observing your plant closely and tweaking care habits can truly make a difference. Trust the process, fellow plant parents!
