The perfect 24 hours out east!! #hamptons #sagharbor #shelterisland #longisland #newyork
Oh my goodness, let me tell you, my recent 24-hour adventure exploring Sag Harbor and Shelter Island was an absolute dream! If you're wondering what to do in Sag Harbor or looking for the perfect Shelter Island itinerary, you've hit the jackpot. I'm still buzzing from all the charming spots and delicious bites I discovered, and I can't wait to share my personal highlights and tips with you. We kicked off our day in Sag Harbor, and trust me, breakfast is a serious affair here. You've got to try Carissa's the Bakery – their pastries are out of this world, especially with a fresh matcha latte. But if you're like me and can't resist a good doughnut, the line at Grindstone is worth every minute! For a lighter, healthier start, Provisions has some incredible smoothies that truly hit the spot. After fueling up, we loved wandering through Sag Harbor's quaint downtown. It’s so picturesque with beautiful historic houses and unique local shops. Don't rush this part; just soak it in! Finding a quiet spot at one of the local beaches was also a perfect way to relax before the afternoon activities. Lunch led us to Sag Harbor Tavern, and if you haven't had their iconic burger, you're truly missing out – it’s a weekend must-try! Then came one of my favorite parts: the super quick five-minute ferry ride over to Shelter Island. It’s such a scenic little journey and instantly transports you to a different, more laid-back vibe. Once on Shelter Island, we headed straight for pre-dinner drinks. Sunset Beach is always a vibrant choice, especially as the sun starts to dip below the horizon. But for a slightly more relaxed, elegant atmosphere, the Pridwin Hotel with its beautiful outdoor grounds is fantastic – perfect for a game of lawn chess or just enjoying the view with a cocktail. Now, for dinner on Shelter Island, you absolutely must make a reservation at Vine Street Cafe. Seriously, everything here is divine. It’s a true culinary gem, and you can tell every dish is crafted with so much thought and local ingredients. After such a fantastic meal, there's always room for dessert, right? We indulged in a black raspberry and waffle cone from Big Olaf – pure bliss! Or, if you're craving something with more toppings, Buddhaberry’s massive froyo cups with cookie dough are legendary. Before we reluctantly made our way home, we made sure to hit some of the famous Hamptons farm stands. Loaves and Fishes is a delightful stop for gourmet goodies and artisanal treats, and you can't go wrong with any of the local farm stands for fresh produce and flowers. I always leave with a spread from Round Swamp Farm – their prepared foods are perfect for taking a little piece of the Hamptons home with you. This 24-hour itinerary truly packs a punch, offering a perfect blend of relaxation, delicious food, and charming exploration. I’ve found that the best times to visit are during the shoulder seasons (late spring or early fall) to avoid the peak summer crowds, but still enjoy beautiful weather. Parking can be tricky in Sag Harbor, so consider arriving early or using public parking lots. And always, always pack comfortable shoes for exploring! I hope my experience inspires your next getaway to these incredible Long Island gems. Let me know if you discover any new favorites!
