We embarked on a culinary journey, eager to discover every delicious corner the city had to offer, and oh, did it deliver! One of the absolute highlights, and a place we found ourselves returning to, was Casa Revuelta. If you're searching for authentic Madrid tapas, this spot is a non-negotiable. The buzz around their fried cod (bacalao rebozado) is entirely justified. Imagine perfectly crispy, golden-brown batter encasing tender, flaky white fish – it’s simple, yet utterly sublime. We’ve tried a lot of fried cod, but this one truly stands out, making it a must-try for anyone visiting Madrid. But the delights at Casa Revuelta didn't stop there. Their tapas spread was incredible; we indulged in savory jamon with breadsticks, creamy croquettes, fresh pan con tomate, and a hearty slice of classic Spanish tortilla. Each bite felt like a warm embrace of Spanish tradition. Our food exploration didn't end with Casa Revuelta. No trip to Madrid is complete without a visit to Chocolatería San Ginés for their legendary churros and rich hot chocolate. Dipping those warm, crispy sticks into the thick, velvety chocolate was pure bliss – the perfect pick-me-up any time of day, especially for a late-night treat. We also ventured into the more adventurous side of Madrid's dining at StreetXO, the informal sister restaurant of DiverXO. The atmosphere was electric, and the dishes were incredibly creative. We particularly loved their Chili crab de concha blanda, a soft-shell crab dish that was an explosion of unique flavors and textures, proving Madrid's culinary scene is ever-evolving and exciting. For a truly immersive food experience, the Mercado de San Miguel was a revelation. This bustling market is a paradise for tapas lovers, offering an incredible array of small bites, from marinated olives to various skewers and gourmet delicacies. It’s the perfect place to graze and sample a wide variety of Spanish specialties while soaking in the vibrant energy. And for something sweet and truly unique, we discovered the delightful dulces from Monasterio del Corpus Christi. These small, round cookies, generously dusted with powdered sugar, come with a fascinating story, purchased directly from cloistered nuns through a rotating turnstile – a charming and delicious cultural experience. Madrid’s food scene is diverse, delicious, and deeply rooted in tradition while embracing innovation. Our advice? Come hungry, walk often, and don't be afraid to try everything! From iconic fried cod to unique street food and sweet monastic treats, Madrid truly is a foodie's dream destination.
