Oh my goodness, you guys, I absolutely have to share my latest discovery in Portsmouth, NH! For the longest time, I’ve been wishing and hoping for an authentic Greek restaurant to open up on the Seacoast. Seriously, I've been begging for a Greek spot, and my prayers have finally been answered! Nisi just opened in the West End of Portsmouth last month, and it's truly bringing the Greek flavors this town has been craving. The moment I heard "Nisi" means island in Greek, I was intrigued. While the interior might not transport you directly to a sandy beach, the food certainly takes your taste buds on a Mediterranean vacation! They are turning out solid classics that absolutely scratch that itch for delicious, homemade-style Greek cuisine. My partner and I always love to try a little bit of everything, so we went straight for a selection of their appetizers to get a true taste of what they offer. First up, we indulged in the trio of dips: the hummus, whipped feta, and white bean spread. All three were incredibly bright and refreshing, each with its own unique texture and flavor profile. And of course, they come with warm, fluffy pita bread, which, let's be honest, makes everything better! But if there's one thing you must add to your order, it’s the spanakopita. Trust me on this one. It's perfectly flaky, savoury, and truly spinach-forward, bursting with that wonderful herby goodness. It's easily one of the best I've had in a long time. On a colder day, their creamy lemon chicken soup is an absolute dream. It’s got that cozy, comforting vibe that just warms you from the inside out, and the lemon adds a fantastic zing without being overpowering. We also tried the village salad, which was wonderfully crisp and fresh – a great counterpoint to some of the richer dishes. However, the real standout for us had to be the lamb chops. Oh. My. Goodness. They were so incredibly packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and so tender you practically had to use a fork to keep them on your plate (in the best way possible!). If you're a fan of lamb, you absolutely cannot skip these. It’s safe to say that Nisi in Portsmouth, NH, is about to become one of our regular takeout spots, and frankly, I can see it becoming a favorite for many others too. It’s exactly what the Seacoast needed. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a satisfying meal, their menu offers something delightful for everyone. Definitely give it a try – you won't be disappointed by these authentic Greek flavors!
