Why is it so hard for me to RELAX??

I was off from work today and I told myself that I was going to lay on the couch , watch movies , and just lounge.

And it was SO HARD to do.

Like sometimes I just felt like ‘I should be up doing something ‘

I work a full time job and a part time job( PRN in the medical world) plus I create a lot of content across several different platforms. I get up at 6am to workout. I deserve a day to just do nothing

And society creates this hustle culture narrative. Like you should always be ‘productive ‘ . But truth is I’m burnt out and tired

So as hard as it was I laid on the couch and enjoyed movies

And I kept affirming myself that I was doing the right thing

Many people grapple with feelings of guilt associated with taking time off from productivity, often due to ingrained societal pressures. This hustle culture perpetuates the idea that one must always be working or doing something productive, making it difficult to allow oneself a moment of peace. However, it's important to acknowledge that relaxation is a necessary component of a healthy lifestyle. It plays a pivotal role in preventing burnout, reducing stress levels, and enhancing overall well-being. Engaging in relaxing activities, such as watching movies or simply lounging, can often recharge your mental and emotional batteries. Affirming that you deserve time to relax can be an empowering practice. It’s essential to recognize that downtime is not laziness; it’s a crucial aspect of self-care. By learning to give yourself permission to relax, you can combat feelings of anxiety and guilt effectively. Self-care routines, including habitual rest breaks, can be instrumental in maintaining mental health. For those struggling to balance work and leisure, consider incorporating structured relaxation times into your schedule. Mindfulness practices, such as journaling or gentle yoga, can help facilitate a mindset conducive to rest. Prioritizing rest and setting boundaries around work can lead to improved productivity and mental clarity when you are back to your tasks. Remember, relaxation is vital; it enriches your life and allows you to show up fully in all the roles you occupy.

Your body is on trained go mode. I completely understand. I have a part time job, several hustles (photography, trivia host, writer, content, experience host) and I volunteer. Its second nature to our bodies to do what we’ve been making it do for weeks, months, years 😪
