Why I Still Do My Makeup Under Sunnies
Makeup under sunnies just hits different.
And yes… I wear sunnies all year long 😂
I took a makeup class before moving to NYC, and now I never skip my base…even when my eyes are covered.
For me , wearing shades doesn’t mean skipping makeup. If anything, it makes the look feel more intentional and chic.
Still perfecting my technique, but I’ve come a long way.
Base combo lately:
NARS foundation
Born This Way + Tarte concealers
Do you still wear makeup when you’ve got sunnies on?
Wearing makeup under sunglasses can sometimes feel unnecessary, but I’ve found it actually enhances my overall look and confidence. I took a makeup class before moving to NYC, which really transformed how I approach my face, especially my base. Even when my eyes are hidden, having a flawless base adds to the intentional chic vibe that sunnies bring. One of my favorite combos lately includes NARS foundation for a smooth finish, and Born This Way plus Tarte concealers for brightening and contouring. For concealer shades, I blend tones like Butterscotch for coverage, Cookie for highlighting, and deeper shades for transition and sculpting. This layering technique helps create dimension and keeps the makeup looking natural yet polished under the sunshades. I also love that wearing makeup under my sunnies shields my skin from environmental factors while maintaining a radiant, even complexion. This is especially useful in NYC’s fast-paced lifestyle, where the sun and pollution can be quite harsh. If you’re hesitant about doing a full face of makeup with sunnies on, try focusing on a soft glam approach with flawless skin as the base, rather than heavy eye makeup. This way, your look feels more put-together without overwhelming the covered eyes. Plus, the sunglasses add a mysterious, stylish edge! In my experience, committing to makeup even under sunnies has made my daily routine feel more intentional, and I've received compliments on my glowing complexion, even when my eyes are unseen. For those curious, do try experimenting with different concealer shades for sculpting and coverage as it really elevates the makeup from basic to stunning beneath your shades.
