The SPF Myth We Need to Stop

One of the biggest skincare myths is that melanin and doesn’t need sunscreen.

Melenated skin does help protect against the sun but it only contains about 13- 15 SPF.

Experts recommend about 30 SPF or higher daily.

Use CEO after cleanser and serums for even looking skin tone and to protect against environmental stressors

As the last step of your skincare routine, Black Girl Sunscreen is designed to blend into melanated skin without leaving a white cast.

I plan to be at every outside event this summer in NYC and these two products will help me enjoy the sun safely !

... Read moreMany people believe that darker skin tones with higher melanin content do not require sunscreen, but this is a common misconception. Melanin provides some natural protection, roughly equivalent to SPF 13-15, which is far less than the recommended SPF 30 or higher for daily use. Neglecting sunscreen, even for melanated skin, can lead to premature aging, dark spots, and increased risk of skin cancer. From personal experience, incorporating sunscreen into my daily skincare routine has made a noticeable difference in my skin’s health and appearance. I use a tinted sunscreen like Black Girl Sunscreen because it blends seamlessly with my skin tone and avoids the white cast that many sunscreens leave behind. This product contains natural ingredients like jojoba and avocado oils, which help moisturize while providing broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection and water resistance for up to 80 minutes. Additionally, applying a vitamin C-rich serum or cream, such as a CEO hydration cream after cleansing, can brighten the skin, reduce hyperpigmentation, and even out the skin tone. Vitamin C boosts SPF effectiveness and helps protect skin against environmental damage. I find that layering these products boosts my skin’s defense against sun damage during outdoor activities without compromising my skin’s natural glow. It is essential to remember that sun protection is equally important for all skin types. Sunscreen paired with antioxidants can prevent premature aging and fading dark spots, common concerns among people with melanin-rich skin. Make sunscreen the last step of your morning routine to maximize protection. This simple change has empowered me to enjoy outdoor events safely—especially during summer in NYC—and maintain healthier, radiant skin year-round.

The MOLD Myth About Spray Foam… EXPOSED 👀
Everyone always asks 👉 “Does spray foam insulation cause mold?” The truth is… NO, spray foam itself doesn’t feed mold. Mold only grows when moisture, food, and warm temps come together. 🚫 The real issue isn’t the foam — it’s poor building science: wrong HVAC size, no dehumidifier, or hidden leaks.
