Are you overlooking this too?
It's so easy to get caught up trying new products, but sometimes the biggest improvements come from fixing what we're overlooking in our daily routine! After years of struggling with my own hair, learning from my hairdresser (and some trial and error!), I realized many common habits actually work against our #stronghairgoals. First, let's talk about that infamous 2-in-1 shampoo. My hairdresser literally calls it 'the devil,' and honestly, I agree! While convenient, these often don't effectively cleanse your scalp and properly condition your ends. Your scalp needs a good cleanse to prevent build-up that can lead to 'thinning roots' and 'hair fallout,' while your ends need deep hydration. Separating these steps ensures each part of your hair gets what it truly needs, leading to healthier 'hair growth'. Another thing many of us overlook is how we actually wash our hair. Are you just scrubbing all over? Focus your shampoo primarily on your scalp to remove dirt, oil, and product build-up. Let the suds run down, but don't aggressively scrub your delicate ends – that can cause breakage. For conditioner, apply it from mid-lengths to ends, avoiding the scalp unless it's specifically a scalp treatment. This prevents weighing down your roots and keeps your scalp from getting too oily or developing a 'dry scalp' from product residue. Water temperature is also a big one! Hot showers feel amazing, but very hot water can strip your hair's natural oils, leaving it dry and susceptible to 'hair fallout.' Try rinsing with lukewarm water, and if you're brave, a cool rinse at the end can help seal the cuticle for extra shine and manageability, making your hair feel incredibly 'silky'. And what about those 'stripped oils' we sometimes experience? Often, it's due to harsh sulfates in shampoos. If you have a 'sensitive scalp' or dry hair, looking for sulfate-free options can make a huge difference. Clarifying shampoos, like the Odele one I heard good things about, are fantastic for occasional deep cleansing but shouldn't be used daily if you want to retain moisture. Finally, don't underestimate the power of protection and gentle care. If you're using heat tools, an effective primer, like Eva NYC Mane Magic, is non-negotiable to 'save dry, frizzy ends.' And for promoting 'hair growth,' while some oils might cause issues (like the Mielle one for some), others, like pure Batana oil or rosemary oil, can be incredibly beneficial when used correctly as a scalp treatment. Regular scalp massages can also boost circulation, which is vital for #healthyroots. It’s all about finding what your unique hair needs and being consistent with a gentle, thoughtful routine.
