How do you become a Bridal hair stylist? Unless you are lucky enough to have connections in the industry, prepare to have a hard first couple of years before earning any real money. I started off at a major company that paid me less than half of what they charge a service. I was a starving artist with a newborn and it was not easy. However, I am grateful someone hired me. I knew no one, I didn’t grow up with hairstylists, I was still in cosmetology school when I started! I didn’t think anyone would give me a chance or that I was even good enough. I’m so happy I didn’t let that fear hold me back.

Take as many classes as you can. Start small, find the basic classes that teach you how to prep hair because this will be the most important part! They never show you prep work in tutorials on social media for a reason. That’s where the secrets are. Once you get the motion of it, find somewhere you fit in that appreciates your work and pays you for it. Please do not do what I did for 4 years and stay somewhere because you’re too scared or too comfortable. There is no growth in that and you will lose your passion.

I promise all you need is the passion and work ethic, everything else will fall in place. One of the biggest questions I get is how do I deal with Bridezillas? I’ve been doing this for 8 years and I’ve only ever had 1 Bride treat me poorly and I do not think it was because she was a bride, something else was going on with her deeper than that 😂. She was not a nice human in general.

There are online academy’s with many of the inspo pics everyone saves for weddings that have the exact tutorials on how to do them from prep to finish. It all looks scary but there really are only a handful of techniques to use, practice them. Soon enough you’ll be able to break down a style in seconds. You got this!

xokatelyngrimes on IG- Behindtheglamacademy- I’m not sure the price, I took one of her classes for $50 and it is very beginner friendly, she is very easy to understand and I highly recommend starting with her for someone just getting into the industry!

ps, you can absolutely do this on your own eventually but it is sleepless work! Most places do a 30/70, where they take 30% and you get 70% and it is absolutely worth it if you want any kind of life outside of work 😂
