It’s hard to believe I’m almost done with Level 2 here at cosmetology school! When you first start, you hear all about the long hours and the intense curriculum, but living it is a whole different experience. People often ask, 'What does a typical day look like for a cosmetologist student?' Well, it’s rarely typical, but it’s always packed with hands-on learning and new challenges. My days usually start early, often with lectures on hair theory, sanitation, or client communication. But the real fun begins when we hit the practical floor. That’s where we get to apply everything we’ve learned. Lately, I've been focusing intensely on advanced cutting techniques. Just this week, I was perfecting my 1st Butterfly Cut – it's more intricate than it looks, requiring precision and a keen eye for shape. We also spend a lot of time on creative styling, like mastering the 4 Quad Free Style, which really pushes your creativity and control. And let's not forget about cołor! From balayage to vibrant fashion shades, mixing and applying color safely and effectively is an art form. One of the biggest challenges of being a cosmetology student is definitely time management. Between classes, practical hours, and needing to complete specific services like those two more styles and three more shampoos by Friday, you really have to stay organized. It’s not just about doing the work; it’s about doing it well and efficiently under supervision. We're constantly practicing, sometimes on mannequins, sometimes on real clients in the school's salon, which is an invaluable part of the cosmetology school experience. Speaking of practical skills, mastering tools like the Marcel Iron for curls has been a game-changer. It takes a delicate touch and a lot of practice to get those perfect, long-lasting curls. These are the kinds of essential skills necessary to be successful in cosmetology. While I’m not yet working as a licensed cosmetologist, the training here definitely prepares you for what a job in the industry entails, including the potential for long hours, especially if you're building a client base or working in a busy salon.
