Maturing as a Christian..

When I first started my faith journey, I often misunderstood what 'maturing as a Christian' truly meant. I thought it was just about going to church, reading my Bible occasionally, and trying to be a 'good' person. But over time, I’ve realized it’s so much deeper – it’s a constant process of transformation that truly sets you free. One of the biggest shifts for me was understanding that repentance is a gift from God, not a punishment. It's not just feeling bad about mistakes; it's a profound turning away from choices that don't align with God's perfect plan for us, and turning towards Him. It’s easy to claim to be a Christian, to know the Bible, and to believe in Jesus. But as I've grown, I've learned that even Satan 'believes' and 'knows' scripture. The real difference, and the true mark of maturity, lies in obeying Him and actively living out that faith daily. It’s not about perfection, but about sincere effort and a heart that seeks to honor God in every area of life. This includes realizing that if something is truly from God, you won't have to compromise your values or fall into sin to get it or keep it. For many years, I struggled with the idea that 'fun' or 'joy' had to be linked to crossing boundaries or indulging in what the world defines as pleasurable, often leading to regret. But maturing in Christ has shown me that having fun doesn't have to be linked to sin at all! In fact, true, lasting joy and peace come from living in alignment with God’s will. It's discovering that the Bible isn't outdated or restrictive; it simply offers a path that doesn't comfort a sinful lifestyle, but rather transforms it. When you truly embrace His word, you find a freedom and a joy that fleeting worldly pleasures can never offer. It's like finding a treasure you never knew existed. Another crucial aspect of this journey has been learning discernment, both for myself and in my relationships. It’s a sobering realization that if someone isn't committed to God and sins against Him with no remorse, what might they do to you? This isn't about judgment, but about wisdom and protecting your own spiritual walk as you strive to be a man or woman of God. It encourages you to surround yourself with people who uplift your faith and genuinely seek to live for Christ, not just claim the title. So, what does this practical maturity look like day-to-day? It's consciously choosing to glorify God in what you eat, drink, and do, as 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us. It's not just listening to the Word, but doing what it says, echoing James 1:22. It's a continuous process of letting go of the chase for temporary satisfaction and instead, letting God lead. This, for me, has been the ultimate freedom and source of peace beyond understanding. It’s about understanding that true Christian living is an active, joyful commitment, not a passive label.
