ROTEL CREAM CHEESE SAUSAGE BALLS

INGREDIENTS

1 pound ground sausage (I use Jimmy Dean Hot)

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 can Rotel, drained, I puree the rotel because my family doesn’t like chunks of tomato

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (I use Velveeta shreds)

1 ½ cups Bisquick

DIRECTIONS

Preheat your oven to 375°

Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray

Prepare the Sausage Mixture:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sausage, softened cream cheese, drained Rotel, shredded cheddar cheese, and Bisquick.

Mix thoroughly with a spoon or your hands until well combined.

Shape the Balls:

Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Makes approximately 25 balls

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes

... Read moreRotel cream cheese sausage balls are a beloved appetizer, especially popular for game days, parties, and holiday gatherings due to their rich, savory flavor and quick preparation. The key ingredients include ground sausage, softened cream cheese, Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, shredded cheddar cheese (Velveeta shreds recommended for smooth melting), and Bisquick for binding. Using Jimmy Dean Hot sausage adds a desirable spicy kick that elevates flavor complexity. The process involves mixing all ingredients thoroughly, shaping the mixture into 1-inch balls, and baking at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. These sausage balls can be made ahead and reheated, making them practical for entertaining. For best results, ensure the cream cheese is softened to mix evenly. Draining the Rotel helps prevent excess moisture, allowing the sausage balls to hold shape well without becoming soggy. Variations can include adding herbs such as parsley or cayenne for extra flavor. Bisquick mix in this recipe serves as a convenient shortcut, combining flour, baking powder, salt, and shortening, which gives the sausage balls a tender texture without requiring separate ingredients. This recipe is a versatile appetizer with excellent crowd appeal. It pairs well with dipping sauces like ranch dressing, spicy mustard, or a tangy barbecue sauce. Additionally, its finger-food style makes it ideal for social events. If you’re looking for flavorful, easy-to-make party appetizers, these Rotel cream cheese sausage balls deliver satisfying taste and convenience.
