Easy yet healthy recipe for lazy people: Salmon Ochazuke
I've recently moved out of my parents' place to a very ulu location so am forced to cook for myself to save $$
Here's one of my top 10 super easy to cook recipes:
- Pan fry your salmon
- Cook rice
- Pour the ochazuke packet onto rice and add hot water (i saw some people will pour green tea, but it tastes really good without green tea already.) Seaweed is already provided within the package.
- Add wasabi if feeling fancy
Eat well. Be well. ✨️😉
Moving out on your own often means learning to balance convenience with nutrition, and this salmon ochazuke recipe is a perfect example of that. Using ochazuke packets like the 永谷園 水谷園の お茶づけ海参 not only adds authentic Japanese flavor but also reduces prep time significantly. I’ve found that the included seaweed and seasoning make the dish satisfying without needing extra ingredients. For a simple yet flavorful meal, pan-frying salmon until it’s crispy outside while remaining tender inside adds a delightful texture contrast to the soft rice base. Cooking rice in advance or using a rice cooker eases the process, which is especially helpful in a ulu, or remote, location where grocery options may be limited. Adding a dollop of 本わさび (real wasabi) elevates the dish beautifully and brings out the umami flavors. Though some suggest pouring green tea over the rice, I prefer hot water to keep the taste pure and mild, letting the ochazuke packet do the work. From personal experience, this kind of easy recipe is a lifesaver when you want something nutritious but don’t have much time or motivation to cook complex meals. It’s also very customizable—you can swap salmon for other proteins or even tofu if preferred. Plus, it’s budget-friendly and requires minimal kitchen tools. If you’re new to ochazuke, it’s worth trying as a comfort food that’s quick to prepare but rich in texture and taste. Keeping a few packets handy in your pantry means you always have an effortless meal option for busy or lazy days. Eating well doesn’t have to be complicated, and with simple staples, you can maintain a balanced diet while enjoying authentic flavors right at home.
