Just do it
Slowly getting my workout groove back. 💪🏽❤️🩹
Recovering from foot surgery, going through menopause, living with chronic pain every day, and dealing with other mental and physical challenges can take a toll on my body. But I refuse to quit.
Exercise doesn’t just make me stronger physically—it helps me mentally too. It eases my PTSD, lifts my mood, and reminds me that every step forward, no matter how small, is still progress.
So I’ll keep showing up, one workout at a time. 💚 #Workout #Exercise #Recovery #PTSD #Menopause #ChronicPain #KeepGoing #VeteranStrong
Recovering from surgery and managing chronic health issues is never easy, especially when compounded by emotional and mental struggles like PTSD and mood swings. From my experience, approaching this journey with patience and kindness toward myself has been crucial. I started with gentle movements, focusing on regaining mobility before gradually increasing workout intensity. Even on the toughest days, reminding myself that 'just showing up' counts as progress helped maintain motivation. Menopause added another layer of complexity, with its hormonal shifts impacting energy and pain levels. Incorporating low-impact exercises like swimming and yoga not only reduced joint strain but also improved my mood significantly. Tracking mood changes alongside physical activity helped me identify the workouts that lifted my spirits the most — a vital component in managing chronic pain and mental health. One key lesson is to listen closely to your body and push boundaries only when it feels right. I found that adapting workouts based on daily pain or fatigue prevented setbacks and sustained a positive mindset. Additionally, seeking support from communities of individuals with similar experiences provided encouragement and practical tips, reinforcing the message that no one has to face these challenges alone. Ultimately, exercise became a therapeutic tool, not just for physical rehabilitation but also for mental resilience. Every small step forward—whether a few gentle stretches or a short walk—contributed to rebuilding strength and hope. This holistic approach to recovery embodies the spirit of 'just do it,' emphasizing perseverance, self-compassion, and the ongoing journey toward wellness.
