Being a school bus driver offers unique opportunities to connect with students beyond just transporting them safely. One of my favorite experiences is when I turn off the radio during the ride and suddenly the students start rapping. It’s a spontaneous and exciting way for them to express creativity and build camaraderie. This moment often breaks the routine and transforms the bus into a mobile stage. Not only does it lighten the mood, but it also strengthens the bond between driver and students. Drivers can encourage this positive behavior by showing appreciation and occasionally joining in. It promotes a friendly and supportive environment on the bus. Plus, allowing such creative expressions helps students build confidence and showcases their talents outside of the classroom.
