I’m learning being mean to others because they are mean to you doesn’t do anything but hurt you. Miserable people want you to be miserable with them. ... Read moreIn my journey toward healing and personal growth, I’ve realized how important it is to reject the temptation of responding to meanness with more negativity. When people act out of misery or bitterness, it’s often because they are struggling with their own pain. I’ve learned that engaging in conflict only prolongs my own suffering and traps me in an unhealthy cycle. Instead, I focus on cultivating my happiness and gratitude. This approach isn’t about ignoring negativity or pretending everything is perfect; it’s about consciously choosing not to allow others’ unkindness to define my mood or self-worth. I remind myself that my blessings and good energy are personal—they come from within me and are not diminished by anyone else’s negativity. Healing is a continuous process. It doesn’t require having all the answers or always reacting perfectly. Sometimes it means acknowledging that certain harmful behaviors have been normalized around us and working intentionally to unlearn them. Being unkind is not the default or normal state—it’s a reflection of pain and insecurity, and I strive to respond with empathy whenever I can. A mantra that really resonates with me is, "I don't do evil for evil. You can stink on your own." This expression captures the strength found in refusing to stoop to negativity and instead holding space for personal peace. Watching negativity from a distance, rather than engaging with it, allows my soul to shine brighter. For anyone struggling with similar challenges, I encourage you to practice self-compassion and resilience. Find ways to nurture your own happiness and be patient with your healing. By choosing kindness and gratitude, you empower yourself to live a more fulfilled life, free from the shadows of others' misery.
