Tow operator mental health
We posted about this yesterday and yet once again my good friend Mr Todd Leiss came through.
Our mental health in the towing and recovery industry goes unnoticed many times.
Most first responders have resources available but not so much in our industry.
Unfortunately many tow companies expect their employees to respond to and work serious wrecks involving fatalities etc but never debrief their operators.
Between the above mentioned factors and working almost every holiday, missing birthdays, family gathering’s and events sometimes it gets to be too much mentally.
No one will ever judge you for seeking help.
If you feel your at that breaking point it is time to reach out for help.
To Tow Company owners:
For many years I worked for quite possibly the worst and most unsafe tow company
around.
No one in management cared about their trucks enough to fix them so you could imagine our safety.
Yes they had uniforms, that each employee paid to rent weekly but was there ever any post incident meetings to discuss what we just witnessed on the road? Never !
I had left that company, their garbage equipment and zero safety minded theories inclusive of “who needs wreckmaster, its garbage” attitude
(side note Wreckmaster has taught me a lot)
I came to a different company whose whole business is centered around safety, new equipment, debriefings and always searching for a better and most importantly safer way to handle recoveries.
If your not putting the safety of your employees and their mental health first and foremost you shouldn’t be running a tow company.
