Just a few tips on how I keep my reading spaces (whether it be online or real life) enjoyable and catered to my liking.
1. This will probably be the most obvious tip - READ WHAT YOU LOVE! Forget LIKE, read what you love. Read what you dream about.
2. DON’T get too caught up in social media trendy books. It’s cool to use social media for recommendations when you’ve been stuck trying to find your next read but nothing beats finding the perfect book on your own.
3. GET COZY. Go to that coffee shop you’ve been wanting to try, create a small corner of your room/home & make it a book nook, go to that park, sit at the lake. Be somewhere that you can focus and be comfortable enough to JUST READ. (SUPPORT YOUR LIBRARY, utilize the space. It’s there just for you!)
4. DNF books that you aren’t vibing with. So many times I’ve put myself in reading slumps because I finished a book that I convinced myself was going to get better, yet I haven’t been enjoying it since the beginning. Now my brain is exhausted & I go months before I pick up another book. IT’S OKAY TO STOP READING IF YOU AREN’T VIBING.
5. Join/start a book club. There are so many (especially online) bookclubs that are catered to your favorite genre.

6. For like a week straight, try to only engage with content that is catered to your interests in the books you read. Now when you scroll, at least you’ll get recommendations for books in the genre’s you actually LOVE.
... Read moreFinding joy in reading goes beyond just picking up a book; it’s about cultivating an environment and mindset that support an immersive and enjoyable experience. The happiest place to be is indeed a book catered to your imagination, as the OCR notes. To deepen the connection with your reading journey, consider personalizing your reading space even further by adding ambient lighting that suits your mood—soft lamps or fairy lights can create a relaxing atmosphere that invites you to dive into stories.
Moreover, supporting your library isn’t just about using the space but engaging with community events such as author talks, book swaps, or reading challenges that can enrich your literary exposure. These activities provide fresh ways to discover books you might have missed while also sparking conversations with fellow readers.
Another helpful tip is to maintain a reading journal where you jot down your thoughts, favorite quotes, or reflections on the books you read. This practice can enhance your appreciation of the stories and track your evolving tastes. It also helps prevent reading slumps by reminding you of what truly resonates with you.
When you engage with content aligned to your preferred genres for a week or so—as suggested in the article—you effectively train social media algorithms and digital book platforms to suggest titles that fit your unique interests. This strategy ensures your scroll is consistently fruitful, showing new releases and hidden gems that keep your reading list fresh and exciting.
Remember, choosing to DNF (Did Not Finish) books you don’t vibe with is a powerful act of self-care in your reading life. It keeps your focus on enjoyment and prevents brain exhaustion, encouraging a healthy, sustainable reading habit.
Incorporate these layers of personalization and community engagement into your reading routine to truly make your reading spaces the happiest, most inspiring places to be—in real life or online.
