GenX-ers as kids growing up in the 70s and 80s🤣

GenX-ers as kids growing up in the 70s and 80s, thought they knew everything. We used to get ourselves into all kinds of stuff. This is just one enactment of things it seems like we would get do.🤣. Perhaps y'all have some of these memories as well. #foryou #genx #iykyk #funny #memories

... Read moreOh, the good old days! Reading the original post, it immediately took me back to my own childhood in the 70s and 80s. There was a certain magic to growing up Gen X, something that's hard to explain to those who weren't there. We really were a generation of kids who, as the post perfectly puts it, thought we knew everything – and in our own little worlds, we kinda did! For many of us, being a 'Born & Raised' Gen Xer meant a level of independence that feels almost unheard of today. We were the original latchkey kids, often responsible for ourselves after school until our parents got home. This wasn't a bad thing; it fostered incredible self-reliance and creativity. Our afternoons weren't filled with scheduled playdates or structured activities (unless you count Little League). Instead, we were outside, exploring the neighborhood on our bikes until the streetlights came on, building forts in the woods, or concocting elaborate games with friends. Those long, unstructured hours were where we learned problem-solving, negotiation, and how to entertain ourselves without a screen in sight. Our childhood was truly our own personal 'GENX-NEWS' unfolding every single day. Technology, for us, was a slow burn. We watched the advent of things like Atari, the VCR, and eventually the clunky beginnings of personal computers. But before all that, entertainment was simpler: Saturday morning cartoons, playing outside, talking on a rotary phone (if you were lucky enough to have your own line!), and listening to music on a Walkman or boombox. We lived through significant cultural shifts, from disco fading into new wave and hair metal, to global events like the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall subtly shaping our understanding of the world. These weren't just headlines; they were the backdrop to our formative years, giving us a unique perspective on resilience and change. We shared so many common experiences, even if we grew up in different towns. Who else remembers the thrill of getting a package of Garbage Pail Kids, or trading stickers? The taste of a Capri Sun after a long bike ride? The anticipation of renting a new movie from the video store? These weren't just trivial moments; they were threads weaving together the fabric of our generation. We were a generation that saw the world change dramatically, from analog to digital, from a simpler time to one of burgeoning complexity, all while still believing we could conquer anything. These memories aren't just nostalgia; they're a testament to a unique time in history, and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
