Basic Trading Strategy

1. Identify the Trend

First, understand the market direction.

Higher highs & higher lows = Bullish trend

Lower highs & lower lows = Bearish trend

Trade with the trend, not against it.

2. Mark Support & Resistance

Support and resistance are key market zones.

Support = price may bounce upward

Resistance = price may reject downward

These levels help find better entries.

3. Wait for Confirmation

Never enter randomly.

Wait for a strong confirmation candle:

Bullish candle for buy

Bearish candle for sell

This confirms market momentum.

4. Entry Point

Enter the trade only after candle confirmation.

Avoid emotional or early entries.

5. Stop Loss (SL)

Always use stop loss for risk management.

Buy trade → SL below recent low

Sell trade → SL above recent high

6. Take Profit (TP)

Use proper Risk-to-Reward ratio:

Minimum 1:2

Better 1:3

Example:

10 pips SL

20–30 pips TP

7. Risk Management

Protect your capital.

Risk only 1–2% per trade

Avoid overtrading

Stay disciplined

Key Rule

Trend + Confirmation + Risk Management = Better Trading

5/25 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first started trading, one of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of mastering the basics: identifying trends, marking support and resistance levels, and patiently waiting for confirmation before entering a trade. These foundational steps are vital because they reduce emotional trading and increase the odds of success. For example, understanding that a bullish trend is characterized by higher highs and higher lows helped me avoid many traps where the price seemed to rise but was actually forming a bearish reversal. Applying this knowledge alongside support and resistance zones gave me a clearer view of where price action might stall or reverse. I found marking these zones on my charts before I started looking for entries greatly improved my timing. Waiting for a strong confirmation candle was another game changer. Instead of impulsively jumping in, I learned to wait for a bullish candle in an uptrend or a bearish candle in a downtrend, which confirmed momentum alignment. This strategy saved me from numerous false entries caused by market noise or fakeouts. Risk management is often overlooked by beginners. I use a maximum of 1–2% of my capital on each trade, combined with a risk-to-reward ratio of at least 1:2, often aiming for 1:3 when market conditions allow. Placing stop loss just below recent lows for buys, or above recent highs for sells, helps protect my capital and keeps losses manageable. Over time, sticking to this basic trading strategy with discipline and patience has helped me develop consistency. I advise new traders to keep a trading journal, track which setups work best, and always follow their trading plan. The formula "Trend + Confirmation + Risk Management = Better Trading" is simple but effective—mastering it will give you a strong foundation for long-term success. Remember, no strategy is foolproof. It's crucial to adapt and refine your approach based on your experience and market changes while never risking more than you can afford to lose. With practice, this basic strategy can become a reliable framework for navigating markets confidently.
