I LOST MYSELF TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE ELSE. NOW
Many of us fall into the trap of constantly trying to meet everyone else’s expectations at the expense of our own happiness. I’ve personally experienced how exhausting it is to bend over backwards to make others happy, only to feel lost and disconnected from who I really am. This state of losing oneself can often lead to feeling isolated, as the OCR quote highlights: "I LOST MYSELF TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE ELSE. NOW I'M LOSING EVERYONE, WHILE TRYING TO FIND MYSELF." From my own journey, the turning point came when I recognized that people-pleasing was not sustainable or healthy. It was only by setting boundaries and learning to say no that I began to rebuild my sense of self. It’s important to remember that finding yourself is a process that requires patience and self-compassion. You may face the fear of disappointing others or losing connections, but true relationships endure when you are authentic. Self-discovery can be strengthened by practices like journaling, meditation, or seeking support from trusted friends or therapists. Reflecting on what truly matters to you besides others’ approval helps clarify your values and goals. The process of reclaiming yourself can feel lonely at times, but it is also empowering and liberating. It’s about embracing your own needs as equally important and acknowledging that your identity is valid independent of external validation. Over time, re-prioritizing your well-being fosters healthier, more fulfilling connections with others — not less. If you find yourself struggling like I did, start small. Take moments each day to check in with yourself and honor your emotions and desires. Remember, losing yourself in trying to please everyone else is painful, but the journey to find yourself again is deeply rewarding and is possible with courage and commitment.
