Chinese Restaurants in Minnesota

I love Chinese food. Give me dumplings, bao, and rice dishes any day. 🍚 Having grown up with my mom’s Chinese side of the family where the cuisine was plentiful, I’ve felt the need to now further my research on the best restaurants around the Twin Cities.

Places I enjoyed recently:

Lao Sze Chuan, Minneapolis: Authentic, spicy Szechuan food. I loved the Salt & Pepper Prawns ($28.74)

Pagoda, Roseville: Comforting dishes and Dim Sum available all day, with cart service on weekends. My favorite is the honey walnut shrimp ($20.95)

📍 Yangtze, St Louis Park: My family’s go-to for Dim Sum. The Siu Mai, Shrimp Dumplings, Rice Noodle Rolls, BBQ Pork Buns, Fried Shrimp Balls, and Taro Cake are all my must-haves. Go with a group and try everything ($20-$50PP).

Peking Garden, St Paul: Great for family-style. I’ve attended several wedding receptions here. Dishes vary in price ($14-$28).

What are your favorite Twin Cities spots?

... Read moreMy journey to discover the best Chinese food in the Twin Cities has been a delicious adventure! Growing up, every family gathering meant a feast of incredible homemade dishes, and I’ve been trying to recreate that joy by exploring the vibrant restaurant scene here in Minnesota. It's truly amazing the variety you can find, whether you're craving authentic regional specialties or comforting classics. One of my absolute favorite experiences is indulging in Dim Sum, and the Twin Cities has some fantastic options. If you're searching for an authentic Dim Sum spot, Yangtze in St Louis Park is a must-visit. It's become my family's go-to, and for good reason! The thrill of seeing those carts roll by on weekends, laden with steaming baskets, is just incomparable. My personal must-haves include the delicate Siu Mai, succulent Shrimp Dumplings, and the wonderfully savory Rice Noodle Rolls. Don't forget to grab some fluffy BBQ Pork Buns and the crispy Fried Shrimp Balls. And for a unique treat, the Taro Cake is surprisingly delicious. Going with a group is definitely the way to go – you can order a little bit of everything and share, making it a truly communal and satisfying meal. The spread of various dumplings in steamer baskets and that distinctive taro cake are just a couple of highlights you can expect. Beyond Dim Sum, the Twin Cities offers a fantastic range of regional Chinese cuisines. If you're a fan of bold and spicy flavors, Lao Sze Chuan in Minneapolis is incredible for Szechuan food. Their Salt & Pepper Prawns are a revelation, packed with flavor and just the right amount of kick. You'll find a table filled with various Chinese dishes, from large crab and lobster to flavorful stir-fries, showcasing the rich Szechuan culinary tradition. For those who prefer more comforting, classic Chinese dishes, Pagoda in Roseville is a wonderful choice with its all-day dim sum and comforting entrees. Their honey walnut shrimp with broccoli is a sweet and savory delight that I keep coming back to. And for family-style dining that truly feels like a celebration, Peking Garden in St Paul is perfect. I’ve attended several wedding receptions there, and the food never disappoints. Their menu features classic dishes like orange chicken with broccoli and savory beef with gai lan, served with fragrant white rice – perfect for sharing amongst everyone at the table. When exploring Chinese restaurants in Minnesota, I always recommend checking out their menus online if possible to get a sense of the variety and prices. Most places offer a great selection, and it's fun to look at restaurant pictures of food to see what catches your eye! Prices can vary quite a bit, from around $14 for a single entree to $50 per person for a lavish dim sum spread or seafood feast, so there's something for every budget. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a memorable dining experience, the diverse Chinese food scene here has something special waiting for you. What are your favorite spots to explore for Chinese food in Minnesota?
