YOUR GIFT IS NOT YOUR CHARACTER
You can be gifted and still need correction.
You can know Scripture and still need humility.
You can pray beautifully and still need to apologize.
You can be used by God and still have areas of your heart that God wants to change.
Spiritual gifts can impress people, but character reveals who you are when nobody is applauding.
“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” — Matthew 7:18
Never become so impressed with what God gave you that you stop allowing God to work on you.
The gift may open the door.
Character determines what happens after you enter.

From my personal journey in faith, I've learned that spiritual gifts, while valuable, are just the beginning of what shapes us. Many times, I found myself praised for my abilities in ministry or speech, but that external recognition didn't shield me from personal shortcomings. Reflection on Matthew 7:18 helped me realize that character is like the roots of a tree—it determines the fruit we produce. It's easy to become proud when gifted, but I discovered humility must accompany every gift. This means admitting when correction is needed, apologizing sincerely, and allowing space for growth in areas of my heart that still required change. Even if I knew Scripture well or prayed with passion, the true test was how I behaved when no one was watching. Character determines the lasting impact beyond the initial opportunities my gifts opened. Gifts may get a door open, but qualities like faith, discipline, sacrifice, and integrity govern what happens once inside. This ongoing process involves daily choices to grow and nurture godly character, recognizing that no matter how equipped we are, God continually works to build more in us than through us. This perspective has deeply transformed how I view my spiritual walk. It’s a reminder that God values the condition of our hearts beyond our abilities. Embracing this truth can help anyone balance confidence in their gifts with a humble, teachable spirit that honors God in every season.
