Reading candle wax is a now necessary part of my spellwork. It gives nuance to how your spell went and what happened on the other side while the universe received your working.🪐
🕯️FORWARD wax movement is a good sign that your spell is moving forward and is changing the future. This movement is great for workings having to do with moving on/letting go, manifesting, removing blockages, etc.
🕯️BACKWARDS wax movement is not necessarily bad. While it can indicate that you may not be moving on, etc, it can also indicate that there may be something that still needs to be reviewed for the spell to work. Anything having to do with the past makes sense for wax movement to flow that way. Just like in any divination, really think about how this movement could be communicating with you.
🕯️Wax moving to the FRONT of the candle is great for bringing things into physical reality. Money, a house, more occult books, physical healings, etc. this wax movement is generally viewed as good, like the forward wax movement.
🕯️Wax moving BEHIND the candle is a good sign for workings dealing with spirituality, spirit/deify/entity work, metaphysical healing, and anything dealing with the unseen, etc.

For instance, a bird might signify freedom or news, while a tree could represent growth and stability. Trust your intuition here; what does the shape feel like it's telling you? Sometimes, abstract forms can be harder to decipher, but with practice, you'll start to recognize patterns and develop your own personal dictionary of symbols. Think about what the shape means to you in the context of your spell or question. Another common question I get is about wax on the sides of the candle. This goes beyond just movement. If wax drips heavily down one side, it offers additional clues. Wax dripping down the front or towards you often relates to things coming into your life, confirmations, or manifestations. If it drips down the back or *away from you*, it might indicate releasing, letting go, or spiritual matters, aligning with the "behind" movement we discussed earlier. Pay attention to whether the wax sticks high or low on the candle too; higher wax might indicate a more spiritual or future-oriented message, while lower wax could be about grounding or immediate concerns. It's all about context! For those of us using candles in spellwork, reading the wax after a spell is like getting a detailed report. Did your spell work? Was there resistance? The way the candle burns and the wax melts can tell you. A clean, even burn with minimal residue often suggests a spell went smoothly and is likely to manifest. Lots of leftover wax, especially if it's clinging to the sides or forming blockages, might indicate resistance or that your intention needs to be re-evaluated or strengthened. If you see specific symbols related to your intention, that's a powerful affirmation! Don't be discouraged if it's not a perfect burn; sometimes, the universe is just giving you more information or asking you to try again with a different approach.
