Wrapped is finally out (and it sucks)

I had a really shitty job in January and the only saving grace was being able to listen to music and Hazbin had just come out so it became a coping mechanism. I’m fine with the amount of Epic. Actually I’m surprised there’s not more. Up until last month I would start the official playlist any time I left the house. I am sad Ghost didn’t make any appearances but that obsession started early/mid November.

... Read moreOh my goodness, I totally get it! That feeling when your Spotify Wrapped drops and it's... just not what you expected. It's like a mirror reflecting a part of your year you didn't even realize was so dominant, or maybe a part you wanted to forget! I remember one year, I had a super stressful period, and my Wrapped was basically just one album on repeat for three months straight. It felt less like a celebration of my diverse music taste and more like a public declaration of my anxiety. It's wild how our listening habits can be so heavily influenced by what's going on in our lives. Like you, I've had years where a single show or musical completely takes over. I can totally see how having "Hazbin" and "Epic the Musical" dominate your listening during a tough job could lead to a Wrapped that feels a bit off. When you're using music as a coping mechanism, it's not always about enjoying the variety, but about finding that one thing that helps you get through. And isn't it frustrating when artists you thought were staples don't even make an appearance? You mentioned Ghost, and I've had similar moments where I was convinced a band was in my top five, only for them to be completely absent from the final list. The algorithm sometimes works in mysterious ways! It probably picks up on things we don't even consciously track, like background listening or those moments an album just runs on repeat. Looking at your top artists like Jorge Rivera-Herrans and Erika Henningsen, and songs like 'Stayed Gone' or 'Loser, Baby' – it clearly shows a strong connection to those specific narratives and performances. It’s a snapshot of a particular emotional landscape, even if it's not the full picture of your entire year's enjoyment. Given you racked up an impressive 37,577 minutes, it's clear you were deeply immersed, even if the results felt a bit skewed by that January period. What I've learned from my own "worst Spotify Wrapped" experiences is that it's just data, a reflection of a specific slice of time. It doesn't define your entire music taste or your personality. Sometimes, the most unexpected Wrapped can tell the most interesting story about your year, even if it's a story of resilience or coping. It's a reminder that music is often more than just entertainment; it's a soundtrack to our lives, the good, the bad, and the utterly unexpected. So next time your Wrapped feels a bit off, maybe see it as a quirky, honest diary entry rather than a judgment on your musical soul! What's the most surprising artist who made it into your Wrapped, only because of a specific life event?
