I experienced a profound shift when I started replacing "I have to" with "What a privilege I can," especially in moments when life felt overwhelming.
For example, instead of dreading going to work, I reminded myself that having a job is a privilege many people search for without success. This perspective helped me appreciate my career as a chance to grow, contribute, and support my family. Similarly, everyday chores like cooking and cleaning transformed from tedious obligations into opportunities to nurture myself and loved ones.
Movement and health are other invaluable privileges. Being able to move my body freely made me realize how vital physical wellness is and how often it's taken for granted. Paying bills, often seen as burdensome, became a sign that I have the resources and stability to manage my life responsibly.
The power of gratitude lies in its ability to change energy and mindset. Viewing responsibilities as opportunities opens doors to positivity, reduces stress, and increases motivation. It’s important to remind ourselves regularly: today, we don’t have to do these things; today, we get to do them.
I encourage everyone to try this mental shift. Recognize that each task reflects your ability to live, grow, and be present — truly a privilege. Embracing this outlook helped me find joy even in routine days, improving my emotional resilience and deepening my connection with family and self.
