Lo que 5 años de terapia te enseñan: no sos tus pensamientos, repetís lo familiar (no lo que querés), y gran parte de tu sufrimiento viene de querer controlar lo que no depende de vos. Madurar es decidir reaccionar distinto. Progreso, no perfección. 🤍
Through my own journey of self-discovery in therapy, I found that accepting I am not my thoughts was the first big breakthrough. It helped me detach from negative self-talk and avoid getting trapped in unhelpful mental loops. I also realized how much of my suffering stemmed from trying to control things beyond my reach, which added unnecessary stress. One key insight is that our nervous system craves familiarity, so we often repeat old behavioral patterns even if they don’t serve us. Recognizing this made it easier to consciously choose new ways of responding instead of reacting on autopilot. Another important lesson is about responsibility. Instead of blaming external circumstances or people, I learned to own how I interpret events, which empowered me to make meaningful changes in my life. I also came to understand the power of being comfortable with solitude. Learning to enjoy my own company prevented settling for toxic or unfulfilling relationships. Lastly, therapy taught me that forgiveness isn't about forgetting the past but freeing ourselves from ongoing emotional suffering. It’s about making peace with pain, so it no longer controls us. Overall, therapy has helped me appreciate that maturity means progress, not perfection. It’s a continuous process of choosing healthier reactions and growing emotionally. If you’re on a similar path, know that the struggle is part of evolving into a more authentic and resilient you.
