Neuroscience explains that holding onto resentment triggers the brain's stress response repeatedly, which can lead to chronic anxiety, increased inflammation, and impaired cognitive function. What struck me most is the concept that forgiveness isn’t about excusing what happened, but about releasing the heavy burden we carry inside. I found that when I struggled to forgive others or even myself, the '70 times 7' forgiveness teaching mentioned in the OCR content resonated deeply as a reminder to practice extended grace. This spiritual perspective complements the scientific understanding by encouraging repeated acts of forgiveness that cultivate inner peace over time. In daily life, letting go of past grudges helped reduce feelings of anger and physical tension, improving my sleep and overall health. It truly felt like a rebirth—shedding expectations of perfection and allowing myself to grow from past mistakes instead of being trapped by them. I encourage anyone feeling weighed down by resentment to reflect on forgiveness as a gift to oneself, not just to others. The brain and body thrive when we make space for healing. Taking that first step to forgive yourself can open doors to profound personal transformation and emotional resilience.
