did a little experiment with this dessert idea I found online! super delicious!!
it’s simply:
- puff pastry dough (you can buy or make from scratch) 🥐
- nutella spread 🍫
- fresh diced strawberries 🍓
I used cute Easter cookie cutters from Target 🎯,
put a bit of melted butter on the top,
preheat the oven to 350°F and bake til it’s golden brown.
add some powdered sugar and I put more strawberries on the top after this pic was taken and VOILA! ⭐️Overall rating: 4.5/5 just cuz I wish I baked it a little longer (preference).

I absolutely love experimenting in the kitchen, especially when it comes to simple, crowd-pleasing recipes like this one. So, I thought I’d share some of my go-to baking hacks and variations to make your Easter treats even more special.
First off, let's talk about Puff Pastries themselves. They're an absolute lifesaver for quick desserts! I always opt for store-bought puff pastry sheets because, let's be real, making them from scratch is a whole project. When you’re using frozen sheets, remember to thaw them properly. I usually take them out of the freezer and let them sit in the fridge overnight, or at room temperature for about 30-40 minutes. You want them pliable enough to unroll without cracking, but still cold enough to handle without becoming sticky. A light dusting of flour on your work surface and rolling pin works wonders. When cutting shapes, use a sharp cookie cutter (like those cute Easter ones from Target!) for clean edges – it makes a big difference in how they look once baked. I’ve found that working quickly helps keep the pastry cold, which leads to a flakier result.
Now, for those looking to get creative with fillings beyond Nutella and strawberries, the possibilities are endless! I’ve tried a few variations that my family adores. For a richer chocolate experience, sometimes I’ll add a few mini chocolate chips along with the Nutella. If you’re a fruit lover, try swapping the strawberries for a dollop of raspberry jam, apricot preserves, or even a spiced apple filling. A cream cheese filling, made with softened cream cheese, a touch of sugar, and vanilla extract, also works beautifully and adds a lovely tang. For a savory twist, which can be great for an Easter brunch, I’ve even done mini puff pastry tarts with scrambled eggs and cheese – so versatile! My tip is to not overfill, especially with wetter fillings, as it can make your pastries soggy or spill out during baking.
Achieving that perfect golden brown finish, as I mentioned in my original post, is key. I’ve learned that every oven is a little different, so keeping an eye on your pastries is crucial. While I used melted butter on top for shine, an egg wash (one egg whisked with a tablespoon of water or milk) will give you an even deeper golden color and a lovely sheen. If your pastries are browning too quickly on top but still seem underdone, you can loosely tent them with foil for the last few minutes of baking. And always, always let them cool on a wire rack to prevent the bottoms from getting soggy. This keeps those lovely layers crispy!
These easy Puff Pastries are fantastic for making ahead too. You can assemble them and keep them in the fridge for an hour or so before baking, which is great if you’re prepping for an Easter gathering. Once baked, they’re best enjoyed warm, but they also taste great at room temperature. If you have any leftovers (which is rare in my house!), store them in an airtight container for a day or two. A quick reheat in a toaster oven can bring back some of that amazing crispness. I hope these extra tips inspire you to bake up some delicious Easter treats and maybe even discover your own favorite variations!
