Update on Hair Products

Hello y’all

When I say I was surprised to see my hair look this good after my wash day yesterday. Just using the products I recently bought is making a huge difference! I can’t wait to continue posting about my journey and seeing any improvements🥰

For those who are wondering: yes I did blow dry my hair after I showered. I’ve been watching Abbey Young from YouTube where she talks about the benefits of blow drying your hair after washing it. PLEASEEE make sure to use heat protectant. If you don’t you’ll damage your hair. And no I didn’t use any filters. This is in my room with my lighting.

I’m also surprised to see my hair is not greasy. It usually gets greasy on day two and 😫 I’m loving it. If you guys have questions lmk! Happy posting! #naturalhairjourney #haircare #hairjourney #Lemon8Diary

... Read moreIt's absolutely thrilling when you find products that just click with your hair, isn't it? My recent wash day results had me genuinely surprised with how soft, shiny, and smooth my hair felt, without any of the usual greasiness by day two. Seeing my reddish-brown strands looking so healthy really reinforced for me the importance of choosing the right products and techniques for that vibrant, well-maintained look. For anyone striving for that 'soft shiny hair after wash' feeling, I've learned a few things that make a huge difference. Firstly, hydration is paramount. Look for shampoos and conditioners that deeply moisturize without weighing your hair down. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, argan oil, shea butter, or even good old glycerin can be absolute game-changers for locking in moisture and achieving that desirable softness. I make sure to really work the conditioner through my mid-lengths and ends, letting it sit for a few minutes to penetrate deeply, before rinsing thoroughly with cool water. This cool rinse isn't just a myth; it helps to seal the hair cuticle, which in turn enhances shine and reduces frizz. Incorporating a weekly deep conditioning mask or a hair oil treatment can also work wonders to replenish moisture and keep your hair feeling incredibly supple and soft. Then there's the 'damage repair and prevention' aspect, which is so crucial for maintaining long-term hair health, especially when you love to style your hair or if it's been color-treated. Beyond just heat protectant – which, as I mentioned, is non-negotiable if you blow dry! – consider what your shampoo and conditioner are doing for your hair's resilience. I’ve found that products formulated with proteins (like keratin, silk protein, or wheat protein) can help strengthen strands and reduce breakage, especially if your hair is prone to damage from styling, chemical treatments, or environmental stressors. Some advanced formulas even include 'bond repair' technology, which can literally help mend broken disulfide bonds within the hair shaft, leading to significantly stronger and healthier hair over time. When it comes to evaluating products for damage repair and prevention, I always check the ingredient list for these nourishing components. I also pay attention to how my hair feels after washing and drying. Does it feel softer, less tangled, and and more resilient? Does it hold its style better? These are all signs that the product is working. I tend to lean towards formulas that are sulfate-free, as sulfates can sometimes strip natural oils and lead to dryness, exacerbating damage. It's not just about what's in the bottle, but also how you use it. Gentle detangling while your hair is still damp (never when it's dry!), using a wide-tooth comb or a wet brush, and a microfiber towel to blot excess water (rather than rubbing vigorously!) are small steps that make a huge difference. Air-drying for as long as possible before blow-drying, and using the lowest effective heat setting with your heat protectant, all contribute significantly to preventing future damage. Even the type of hair ties you use can impact breakage! My goal is always to minimize stress on my hair, allowing it to thrive. Ultimately, finding the right routine is a journey of trial and error tailored to your unique hair type and needs. But by focusing on deep hydration, incorporating damage-preventing and repairing ingredients, and being gentle with your hair during your wash day and styling routine, you'll set yourself on the path to consistently soft, shiny, and healthy-looking tresses. It's truly amazing the confidence a good hair day can bring!
