Each silicone mold has unique features. I learned how to better manage this thin silicone mold after my first attempt to make ice butterflies. I didn’t realize how quickly the slim ice butterflies would melt if not placed into icy beverages. Also, for my next set of ice butterflies (see photo), I alternated filling the mold rows so that ice froze quickly with reduced overflow. In addition, placing the mold on a sheet pan helped retain the butterflies’ ice colors by reducing spillage.
I am looking forward to using this mold for making Jell-o Jigglers and chocolate butterflies. The Jello and chocolate are expected to show the intricate butterfly wing designs that did not appear on my ice butterflies. My rating for this mold is four stars because it is highly flexible, shallow, and leaves little space between rows. A deeper mold depth would help the ice butterflies stay frozen longer. Also, more space between the mold rows would reduce fluid overflows. I will update this review for unexpected issues.
