Thriving, Not Just Surviving

Welcome to @SoftButWired 🌿⚡️🦋

A space for women navigating Dysautonmia while balancing careers, travel, Motherhood, and everyday life.

I created this because I couldn’t find a community that reflected on the reality of trying to do it all while living with a nervous system that does not always cooperate.

If that’s you too, welcome 💛

... Read moreLiving with dysautonomia presents unique challenges that make everyday activities a complex balancing act. As someone navigating the ups and downs of this invisible illness, I've found that embracing a mindset focused on thriving rather than barely surviving is transformative. Dysautonomia affects the autonomic nervous system, which controls essential body functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. This unpredictability can make managing a career, family, and personal interests a delicate juggling act. One of the key strategies I've adopted is pacing—learning to listen deeply to my body's signals and adjusting my activities accordingly. It took time to accept that rest is not a weakness but a necessity for managing symptoms effectively. This mindset shift allowed me to create a sustainable routine that includes scheduled breaks, prioritizing tasks, and asking for help when needed. Another important aspect has been building a community of understanding individuals. Since dysautonomia is an invisible illness, many suffer silently without a network that truly comprehends the daily struggles. Connecting with others through online groups and forums dedicated to dysautonomia and spoonie life has been invaluable for emotional support and practical advice. Traveling and motherhood add additional layers of complexity, but thoughtful planning helps. For travel, choosing destinations with accessible medical care, carrying necessary medications, and incorporating plenty of rest periods have made trips more manageable and enjoyable. When it comes to motherhood, it's important to communicate openly with family about needs and limitations, fostering a supportive environment. Ultimately, thriving with dysautonomia means redefining success on your own terms and celebrating small victories. Despite the chaos in a malfunctioning nervous system, grace can be found in resilience. I encourage anyone facing similar challenges to cultivate patience, embrace adaptability, and seek communities that uplift you. Together, we can move beyond mere survival and find strength and joy in everyday life.
