Instrustions:

* Mix instant pudding (2) with cold milk. Stir until completely combined. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes to set.

* In large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, condensed milk and vanilla. Start mixing with spatula and switch to whisk once it begins to combine. Mix very well. *will still have some lumps

* Fold in cool whip and stir until completely combined.

* Add pudding mixture in to cream cheese mixture and combine by folding until the same consistency throughout.

* In a deep dish/bowl, add a layer of wafers, followed by pudding mixture. Spread mixture out best as possible over wafers. *these are your layers so make it as thick as you want. I don’t leave too much*

* Once pudding is spread, add a layer of crushed wafers (and sliced bananas if you want) and another layer of pudding and spread. Repeat one more time ending with a layer of pudding on top. Cover with cling wrap and store in fridge overnight.

* Decorate your banana pudding with toppings of choice (wafers, chessman cookies, bananas, whipped cream, caramel) and serve!

... Read moreThere's just something incredibly comforting and delicious about a good Banana Pudding, isn't there? It instantly transports me back to family gatherings and sunny summer afternoons. While my go-to recipe is fantastic for its ease and creamy texture, I often get asked about variations or ways to tweak it. So, I wanted to share some extra tips and tricks I've picked up along the way to make your Banana Pudding experience even better! First off, let's talk about the 'cool whip' factor. While my recipe uses it for ultimate convenience and a consistently light texture, I totally understand wanting an "old fashioned banana pudding without cool whip." If you prefer a homemade touch, simply swap the 8 oz of Cool Whip for about 2 cups of freshly whipped heavy cream. Just whip cold heavy cream with a tablespoon or two of powdered sugar (to taste) and a splash of vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Gently fold this into your cream cheese mixture. It adds a wonderfully rich, airy quality that some find irresistible. For those looking for "easy sugar free desserts" or even "zero sugar banana pudding," you're in luck! This recipe is surprisingly adaptable. You can easily find sugar-free instant pudding mixes (banana crème and vanilla flavors are common). For the sweetened condensed milk, look for sugar-free versions, which are becoming more widely available. The natural sweetness from ripe bananas will also contribute beautifully to the flavor, making it a surprisingly guilt-free treat without sacrificing taste. Many people also ask about how to make pudding "from scratch." While my recipe uses instant pudding for speed, if you're feeling adventurous and want to make a truly homemade base, you could prepare a classic vanilla custard from scratch. This usually involves egg yolks, sugar, milk, and cornstarch, cooked gently until thickened. Once cooled, you can fold in mashed bananas and then proceed with the cream cheese and whipped cream layers. It's a bit more effort, but the depth of flavor is undeniable and truly creates a "recipe banana pudding from scratch" experience. When it comes to serving, this Banana Pudding recipe is a superstar, especially if you're looking for "easy desserts with few ingredients for a crowd." The recipe scales up beautifully – just double or triple the ingredients for a large trifle bowl. And for individual portions, I love making "banana pudding cups." Layering the pudding, wafers, and bananas in small clear cups makes for an elegant and easy-to-serve dessert at parties. It also makes portion control a breeze! You might also be curious about a "banana mousse pudding" or "banana milk pudding." The combination of cream cheese and Cool Whip in this recipe already gives it a wonderfully light, airy, and creamy texture that's very much like a mousse. If you want it even lighter, ensure your cream cheese is very soft and beat it thoroughly to incorporate air. For a "banana milk pudding" feel, the key is using whole milk or even a plant-based milk like oat or almond milk (as suggested in the original recipe) which contributes to a rich, milky consistency. The OCR also confirms we're talking about delicious "Banana Pudding" here, and these adjustments ensure it's always the star of the show. Remember, the key to truly great Banana Pudding is patience – let it chill overnight! This allows the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften to that perfect cake-like consistency. Don't rush it! Experiment with toppings too; I sometimes add a sprinkle of toasted pecans or a drizzle of caramel for an extra touch. Enjoy making and devouring this classic dessert!
