Have you been?? My first time but won’t be my last. @dintaifungusa has locations around the world but I visited their first one in NYC. First of all it’s a HUGE space. We had no resy BUT Joined the waitlist on Yelp and was No 267… which was nuts but worked out fab because we planned ahead and joined early. It took about 2.5-3hrs for our group to be seated. We ordered a variety. I really loved that they had chicken dumpling options. The xiao long Bao were good but that’s not all you’re coming for. What I’d get again:

- cucumber salad

- The greens

- xiao long bao (chicken and dessert)

- Spicy wontons

- Spicy noods (sesame and others)

- Black pepper beef tenderloin

- Fried noodles

Given its popularity worldwide, Din Tai Fung often has long wait times, so joining the Yelp waitlist early, as shared in the experience, is a smart way to secure a spot. It’s important to plan ahead—waiting 2.5 to 3 hours might feel long, but it’s worth it for the authentic flavors and exceptional service. One of the outstanding features of Din Tai Fung is its famous xiao long bao, or soup dumplings. While the classic pork dumplings are iconic, this location also offers unique variations such as chicken xiao long bao and a dessert option, providing a delightful twist on tradition. In addition to dumplings, the menu boasts various other crowd-pleasers including spicy wontons and spicy noodles in sesame and other flavors, catering to those who enjoy a kick of heat. For a well-rounded meal, the cucumber salad and a selection of greens help balance the savory offerings with fresh, crisp textures. The black pepper beef tenderloin stands out as a hearty option, perfect for those seeking something substantial without straying from authentic tastes. Also popular are the fried noodles, which offer a satisfying, crispy contrast to the soft dumplings. A real insider tip for first-timers is to explore beyond just the dumplings; Din Tai Fung’s menu is thoughtfully curated so that each dish complements the others. Sharing a variety of dishes with your group lets everyone experience a range of authentic Taiwanese flavors. Plus, the large restaurant space helps accommodate bigger groups comfortably once you’re finally seated. Finally, for anyone planning a trip to this New York City hotspot, patience and preparation are key. Joining the waitlist early, exploring smaller dishes while you wait, and diving into a variety of menu items will ensure your first visit is memorable and mouthwatering. Din Tai Fung provides a mix of traditional and innovative cuisine that will surely keep you coming back for more.
