Winter is a season of reflection and renewal, especially for those navigating the challenges of life after cancer. The journey to recovery is not solely about physical healing but also emotional and relational growth. Traveling during the winter can be a transformative experience, offering an opportunity to escape the routine and explore new horizons. Each snowy landscape and festive gathering can remind us of the beauty in life and the connections we cherish. Sharing adventures with friends and family, or even volunteering in local communities during this season, can amplify the feelings of gratitude and purpose. As you make plans for winter travels, consider destinations that inspire you, whether it's a cozy cabin in the woods or a vibrant city decorated for the holidays. Take this time to celebrate life, nurture relationships, and cherish the moments that make each day special. Through my travels, I've found joy in the simplest of things, from the warmth of a cup of cocoa to the laughter shared with loved ones. Embrace the winter as a symbol of hope, new beginnings, and the promise of brighter days ahead.
Hey Suzy, that’s exactly how I felt in July 2022.I still worry even though after my surgery I finally got the all clear because my Oncologist kept begging me to have radiotherapy or chemo,no way, definitely not, especially after seeing the damage it done to my mam.Yeah she had bladder cancer, eventually after unsuccessfully trying to remove the tumours and 6 weeks of radiotherapy they had to remove her bladder and also had to have a total hysterectomy and removal of her tubes as the cancer had spread outside the bladder wall. They couldn’t make a new bladder from skin from her bowel as she had really bad Crohns Disease so she ended up with a Urostomy.Unfortunately 8 years later they found a mass in her Pancreas, told us it was just inflammation,I knew it wasn’t.Due to the radiotherapy,it had caused major damage to her Pancreas, kidneys basically everything that was left in her pelvic area. She went into Renal Failure,I finally pushed the Dr’s to start her on dialysis which for a while she felt a lot better but it didn’t last.I knew the cancer had come back but because she was so ill I couldn’t tell her.She got 10 years from the first time she had cancer.I wouldn’t let it lie so I finally got a hold of her Consultant 3 months after she passed away who verified what i already knew.I was raging and asked why they had lied to us,he tried to tell me that my mam didn’t want to go through anything else.I could of punched him for saying that because he was still lying, there’s no way my mam knew, she would of fought like she always had done.I screamed at him,you are a complete liar, hypocrite and I will be back!Yes I’ve been back 3 times but everytime I asked to speak to him conveniently he was either busy or not on the ward.He was there alright,he was scared to talk to me again.I’m not going to repeat what I said to the staff. As for me,well even though I was in hospital recently my Oncologist has been phoning me leaving voicemails as I still haven’t been for my 3rd year post op check
