Indie Author April ✨ Trying to ☠️ the Sun

Okay, so I just HAVE to talk about 'Trying to Kill the Sun' by T.F. Author. I picked this up during Indie Author April, and it completely blew me away! If you’re into sci-fi superhero m/m romance with a truly unique twist, you absolutely need to add this to your TBR pile immediately. It’s not just a romance; it’s an action-packed journey with incredible depth. Let’s dive into the characters, because honestly, that’s where this book shines for me. The story centers around a framed superhero’s sidekick, and right away, you know you’re in for something different. This isn't your typical shiny-hero narrative. The protagonist's struggles with being framed, navigating a world that's turned against him, and trying to clear his name make him incredibly relatable. It’s hard not to root for someone who’s been dealt such a harsh hand, especially when he’s fighting not just external enemies but also his own inner demons. The book doesn’t shy away from important themes, particularly the portrayal of mental health struggles. This aspect was handled with such care and realism, adding so many layers to the characters. It shows that even superheroes, or their sidekicks, are human and face genuine emotional challenges. It made the characters feel incredibly authentic and grounded, despite the fantastical setting with unique superpowers. Speaking of superpowers, they are so imaginative and integral to the plot, not just flashy add-ons. They really shape who the characters are and the difficult choices they have to make. Another huge highlight for me is the trans representation. It’s woven into the fabric of the story naturally and respectfully, adding to the diversity and richness of the character ensemble. It’s so refreshing to see such inclusive storytelling in the superhero genre, making the world feel even more vibrant and real. The m/m romance itself is beautifully developed, full of tension, vulnerability, and genuine connection. It's a slow burn that feels earned, adding a powerful emotional core to all the action. Overall, 'Trying to Kill the Sun' is a fantastic read for anyone looking for a book that offers more than just a typical romance or superhero story. It's got everything: a compelling plot, complex characters you'll fall in love with, intense action, and meaningful discussions on identity and mental health. Seriously, give this indie gem a try – you won't regret it!
