Mental Health is at risk

The attack on SSRIs must be stopped.

It’s a gloomy day, and it’s about to get darker for the mental health community. Particularly, moms like myself.

Postpartum depression isn’t just the ‘baby blues’—it’s a serious medical condition affecting 1 in 7 new moms. For many, SSRIs are a lifeline, helping them navigate the hardest season of their lives safely. But now, the MAHA commission is questioning SSRI usage in America, putting access at risk. Restricting these medications won’t ‘protect’ moms—it will leave them vulnerable, struggling, and, in some cases, in danger. Maternal mental health matters. We should be expanding access to care, not limiting it. Moms deserve better.

Speak up before it’s too late.

SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) often serve as a crucial support during the challenging postpartum period. However, claims from figures like RFK Jr. about their addictiveness and proposed alternatives, such as 'healing farms,' lack scientific backing and threaten to undermine effective treatment options. The MAHA commission's questioning of SSRIs raises concerns about access to these lifesaving medications. Instead of reducing access, there is a pressing need to expand support and resources for maternal mental health. Evidence shows that proper treatment can significantly improve outcomes for mothers suffering from mental health issues. Advocating for policies that support the mental well-being of new moms is essential, ensuring they receive the care they deserve and preventing further risks to their health.
