Therapy’s expensive. Soda bread costs about £1.20✨
Soft, warm, and ready in half an hour — no proving, no fuss, just quiet satisfaction and a crust worth the crumbs.
This easy wholemeal soda bread is one of those recipes that feels like a small victory — minimal effort, maximum comfort. No yeast, no waiting, just mix, shape, bake, and breathe.
You’ll need:
170g wholemeal flour
170g plain flour (plus a little for dusting)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
290ml buttermilk
Mix everything in a bowl until you have a soft dough. Form into a round, cut a cross on top, and bake at 200°C (180°C Fan) for about 30 minutes — or until it sounds hollow when tapped.
Serve warm with butter, or whatever peace tastes like to you.
