The cutest little blue gem 💎

Chefchaouen is one of the most unique places I’ve ever been to and I loved it! This little blue city is such a cute little gem that you should definitely add to your bucket list! I truly felt like I was in another world because quite literally all the buildings were blue with the exception of some murals painted on some buildings. Not only are they blue, but they are the perfect blend of different shades of blue, making Chefchaouen one of the most picturesque cities I’ve ever been to. When people ask me what to do in this city, my biggest suggestion is to just walk around! It sounds lame, but I promise you won’t get bored just walking around this city because every corner you turn is another incredible blue view. Add super intricate doors to that and I repeat, SO picturesque!

... Read moreI totally agree with the original post – Chefchaouen is a magical place! When I first stepped into this city, the vibrant blue hues just took my breath away. It's not just one shade; it's a symphony of blues, from sky to indigo, that makes every alleyway feel like a painting. I know the post says 'just walk around,' and that's fantastic advice, but let me share a few extra tips from my own experience to make your wanderings even more unforgettable, especially if you're chasing those iconic blue stairs and flower-filled corners! One thing I found fascinating is learning why Chefchaouen is blue. There are a few theories – some say it's to keep mosquitoes away, others believe it symbolizes the sky and heaven, or that it’s a tradition started by Jewish refugees. Whatever the reason, it creates an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. As you explore, you'll notice the different textures of the blue walls, some smooth, some weathered, adding so much character. For those picture-perfect moments, try to wake up early! The morning light is absolutely divine, and you'll find fewer people, allowing you to capture those stunning blue staircase photos without too many photobombs. I remember finding a particularly charming set of blue stairs adorned with vibrant potted plants and flowers – it was exactly like what I'd seen in travel guides! Keep an eye out for these little floral touches; they add such a pop of color against the blue. The OCR also mentioned a "woman in a floral dress descending blue stairs," and I can attest, wearing something colorful really stands out against the blue backdrop, making your photos even more striking! Don't just stick to the main paths. Chefchaouen's true charm lies in its winding, narrow cobblestone alleyways. I loved getting 'lost' (safely, of course!) and discovering hidden gems: an intricate blue door with unique metalwork, a cozy archway leading to a small square, or a wall where the blue paint perfectly blended with a dash of white. These are the moments that truly make the city feel alive. While the blue is the star, remember that Chefchaouen is also a living, breathing Moroccan town. Take a moment to peek into local shops, smell the spices, or grab a mint tea. The locals are incredibly friendly, and a simple 'Salam Alaikum' goes a long way. I even found myself chatting with an artisan about the history of the blue dye! To maximize your visit, wear comfortable shoes because you'll be doing a lot of walking up and down those charming blue stairs! And don't forget your camera – every turn is a postcard. Whether you're looking for the famous blue stairs with flowers, a quiet blue alleyway, or just soaking in the overall ambiance of this Moroccan gem, Chefchaouen will leave an indelible mark on your travel memories. It's truly a place where every view is a masterpiece.

I’m from Morocco and definitely recommend having a breakfast at a rooftop restaurant there bc the views from above are sooo beautiful too. there are parrots, falcons, and peacocks you can handle and take pics with (charged ofc) but it’s a great experience :)
