Our very own Danna Paola and Cecilia de la Cueva are bringing Elphaba and Glinda to life in the Latin Spanish dubbing, and they spilled all the tea about their experience. First off, they shared some super fun tidbits about their time in the estudio. Like, Danna confessed she was usually the more punctual one – classic Elphaba, right? And when it came to fuel, it wasn't all glamorous. They mentioned sticking to simple things like water, tea, and even chicken broth during those intense dubbing sessions. Danna even has a unique habit: she's apparently the only one who takes agua caliente in her tumblers. Talk about dedication! Ceci admitted she was probably the one on her phone more often, which is so relatable. When asked about their favorite song from Wicked, they both instantly agreed on 'For Good,' which just melts my heart. It's clear how much they connect with their characters. When asked how much they relate to Elphaba and Glinda, both Danna and Ceci enthusiastically said "I relate to everything!" It just goes to show how deeply they dove into bringing these iconic roles to life. And speaking of connections, did you know they actually met in a hotel lobby, and it was cupcakes that sparked their friendship? Seriously, how adorable is that? One of the most fascinating parts of their chat was when they discussed why Mexican doblaje is considered one of the best in Latin America. Their director, Lisa Leguillou, apparently told them there's a unique element that 'Wicked' doesn't have in any other language: the 'sangre latina' (Latin blood) element! She explained that preparing actresses on Broadway sometimes lacked the depth, the 'grito desgarrador' (heart-wrenching cry) that Danna brought from the very first take, or the direct drama that Ceci embodied. It's about that passionate delivery, the romantic nature of our language, and the sheer depth we bring. It makes so much sense when you think about it – that raw emotion just comes through so powerfully. They even joked about the intense emotional moments in the recording booth. Apparently, the micrófonos pick up *everything*, including crying and even stomach noises! Ceci mentioned her 'panza habla' (stomach speaks) and how they had to dub crying and even 'mocos' (snot) sometimes because there's so much crying in the film. It really highlights the challenge and dedication artists like Danna and Ceci put into making these characters sound authentic. I'm truly blown away by their passion and talent.
