"Desperately Sick"

Jeremiah 17:9

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?"

The human heart untransformed is susceptible to the bad influences of this world, namely sin.

One of the first things it learns is deceit. It deciphers only lies, and that's why people act suicidally in preferring self-trust over God-trust. It's all because sin is like a disease that can feel really good.

In the fleshly state, the heart is fragile requiring a gentle touch when it's determined that it's been damaged.

But in the spiritual sense, our hearts are hardened and jaded by life experiences. Therapy can walk you backwards, but only God can heal what the world a has turned to stone.

Jesus shows us an unparalleled Agape kind of love. The kind of love that knows no boundaries, limits or conditions. A love that transcends logic and unites brothers and sisters by empowering them to love one another with the same selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional love they have received from God.

They say "Time mends all wounds" but God's word in Jeremiah 30:17 quotes the Lord saying, "For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds".

So, while time provides space, only God offers true, lasting restoration for broken hearts and spirits!

Heavenly Father, Thank you for revealing Your true nature! Thank you for sending someone we can relate to, someone who has been where we have, yet knows how to love and live perfectly and flawlessly! Thank you for Your Holy Spirit and the ways He transforms lives into something that is worthy of approaching You! You are a Father to all who are born of the Spirit and the One who dwells within us all! In Jesus' name, Thank you, without You we would certainly be lost forever! Amen 🙏

... Read moreJeremiah 17:9 highlights a fundamental truth acknowledged across spiritual teachings: the human heart, left to its own devices, can be profoundly deceitful and spiritually ailing. This passage serves as a reminder that the root cause of human brokenness often lies in sin, which distorts perception and leads individuals down paths of self-trust rather than trust in God. Scriptural insights emphasize that while the heart can become damaged through life’s challenges and hardened by painful experiences, true transformation requires divine intervention. Unlike therapeutic approaches that might help one revisit and understand past wounds, only God’s restorative power can heal a heart that has turned 'to stone.' This spiritual healing transcends human capabilities and is anchored in the example set by Jesus Christ, whose unconditional, sacrificial love—known as Agape—breaks down barriers and invites believers to love others authentically. Furthermore, Jeremiah 30:17 complements this by assuring that God promises to restore health and heal wounds, reinforcing the idea that temporal remedies, including the passage of time, are insufficient substitutes for spiritual renewal. The restoration offered is enduring, renewing both heart and spirit. This teaching has critical implications for those struggling with emotional pain, mistrust, or feelings of despair. It encourages believers to seek God’s presence and guidance as a source of genuine hope and restoration. The promise of the Holy Spirit’s transformative power is central to this journey, empowering believers to move from despair to wholeness, embodying the love they have received. Consequently, Jeremiah 17:9 invites readers to reflect deeply on their inner condition, recognize the limitations of human strength, and embrace the healing available through faith. It is a call to humility, repentance, and reliance on divine grace for a heart that is not only healed but also empowered to love as Christ loves—selflessly, sacrificially, and unconditionally.
