"Promise Keeper"
Matthew 26:1-2
"When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, [2] “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”
Jesus is telling his disciples that Passover is two days away and that the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified. It's the transition of Matthew, and Jesus's public teachings to the final events of his arrest, trial, and crucifixion.
Just focus for a minute on God's faithfulness to fulfill His promises versus the way promises are fulfilled in the here and now. We would have to be blind to not notice the stark contrast! God, threw down the Himself when He sent down His Son.
And despite Jesus' knowing for 30+ years that His fate belonged to His Father and destruction was eminent, He still fulfilled His Father's promise.
But we on the other hand make promises with either subtitle or not so subtle contingencies tied to them. I know I don't need to give examples because if you're like me, they're already coming to mind!
Being faithful to your word means sacrifice but no one has sacrificed more for mankind than Jesus has. Fulfilled promises are the bedrock of our faith and speak to the integrity of our hearts intentions. Without integrity our words are just that... Words.
So these verses serve as a reminder in times when you regret your promise, Integrity matters.
Heavenly Father, I pray that you keep me in check when I try to overextend myself, reminding me that my "light" flickers when truth is not satisfied. Jesus let my promises be made as true as they were when you first made yours. In Your name I pray, Amen. 🙏
