Ecclesiastes 12:13 concludes that the ultimate purpose of life is to "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man"
The Last Gamble - At the end of the matter, when all has been said, all done, all heard, and it's time to give up the ghost... Will you be empty when the ghost is gone?
If life is but a stage, and we are the players, are we in touch with the Truth, or wearing unicorn sunglasses?
When you look at creation, do you see marmalade skies, or deep blue invitations?
Are your thoughts the haze of a dizzying world, self-created... of bumblebees and butterflies seen through pink sunglasses?
Were you created to be happy? Or happy to be here? Did stars beget offspring... and you, the dream that was born?
Life is simple when we're young, but young minds are easily fooled... when you think your destiny is tied to your happiness, it's easy to miss the call.
Proverbs 7:21-23 - (revised)
With much seductive speech, evil persuades; with smooth talk, evil compels. Once followed, you're as an ox going to the slaughter, or as a stag caught in a trap, till an arrow pierces the liver; not knowing that it will cost your life.
A bit older now, but none the wiser... does pain just remind you not to repeat the process again... or was Truth making an attempt, granting your freedom?
How many times did a voice say, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8) or maybe, just maybe you heard, "Return to me, and I will return to you..." Did you not recognize the Lord Almighty? (Zechariah 1:3)
If not, why not... at this stage in life? Is the voice still ignored because you think you create your own destiny?
If your destiny was self-created, then why is the weight now slowing you down?
You made your beginning, you paved your own path... so why not create your own happy ending?
Still pondering the right color of paint for the path? Better hurry before the page turns again!
When you hear that voice whispering next, saying "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man,"
hopefully you'll hear it as a warning shot...
Will your self-destiny turn into an "I'm not ready yet"? Or do you still believe your destiny is tied somehow to your happiness?
Maybe you're the first! ... Let's build purple campfires and pass out the recipe!
When all has been said and all has been done, when you give up your ghost, where will it go?
Your soul needs direction that only comes from above 🕊, the Holy Spirit that replaces your own before you finally give up your ghost.
Only He knows the Way... or is yours still better? Will the destiny you create lead back into the pipe it was dreamt out of... do you get a Do-over?
Now it's Older's last gamble,
you've heard the shots of warning, you've had a glimpse of God's magnificence in creation...
You've had scuffles with illness, heartaches and pain... trials, happiness, both grief and bliss...
Your eyes, once filled with diamonds, grew darker as time crept. You wore sunglasses at night when your future sparkled that bright... but now you've taken them off, and only cataracts remain...
Perhaps fearing God wasn't such a terrible thing? You won't have to imagine what life is or your purpose while here on earth...
You'll now be convinced that, "the fear of the LORD begins wisdom, and knowing God brings enlightenment" (Proverbs 9:10 - revised).
At the end of the day, your search for Truth, and meaning on earth, won't have to fizzle out still wondering...
What a folly it will seem when judgment day arrives, after exploring the vanity of earthly pursuits...
You can be like Solomon... Knowing that true meaning comes from revering God and obeying Him, acknowledging God's judgement, knowing He'll uncover every deed, hidden good or evil.
So when the day of the Lord arrives... so great and very awesome; you won't have to wonder if you can endure it? (Joel 2:11)
Prayer;
"Lord, when the final curtain falls and I breathe my last, let me not be found empty. Strip away the self-made illusions and the vanities of this world that have blurred my vision. I return to You, asking that Your Holy Spirit guide my path and replace my own, ensuring my soul rests in Your truth. May I fear You and keep Your commandments, finding true, lasting purpose in Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
